Manchester City claimed third place in the FA Premier League Asia Trophy with a 4-2 win over Everton in a penalty shoot-out after the teams played out a 1-1 draw.

Andy Cole had the perfect debut, giving his new club the lead after 25 minutes by sliding in at the far corner of the six yard box to convert from Trevor Sinclair’s well-weighted through ball.

But James Beattie equalised seven minutes after the restart. The former Southampton man scoring from the penalty spot after the ball hit Sylvain Distin’s arm following Beattie’s goal-bound header.

Beattie’s goal set up the penalty shoot-out, from which City emerged victorious.
