PSV Eindhoven manager Guus Hiddink has been appointed as the new coach of the Australian national team.

PSV Eindhoven manager Guus Hiddink has been appointed as the new coach of the Australian national team.

The Dutchman will remain in charge of PSV while guiding the Socceroos in their 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign and the finals of the competition should they get that far.

Hiddink is the only man to have led two teams to the World Cup semi-finals - Holland in 1998 and South Korea in 2002.
