Longford face Derry, UCD face Shels in League Cup

League Cup holders Longford Town have been given a tough task to retain their trophy after being drawn away to Derry City in the semi-finals.

It is a tough draw for the Midlanders against Stephen Kenny’s in-form men though Longford Manager Alan Mathews is confident that his side can progress.

Mathews said: “We’ve beaten Cork away and Sligo away so there is no reason why we can’t beat Derry away.

The other semi-final paired Shelbourne with UCD at Tolka Park.

The ties have been provisionally arranged for August 7 and 8, though the success of Shelbourne or Longford in European competition may force either match to be postponed.
