Wigan sign Chimbonda

Wigan manager Paul Jewell has made his second signing of the season with the capture of French defender Pascal Chimbonda.

Jewell has been desperate to strengthen the Latics’ defence following the departures in the last week of Nicky Eaden and Ian Breckin to Coca-Cola Championship League One side Nottingham Forest.

Chimbonda, who can play at right or centre-back, has signed a three-year contract with Wigan after spurning the opportunity to join Marseille from Bastia.
