Candystripes hold nerve for sweet win

Derry City 2 Drogheda United 2 aet (Derry win 5-4 on pens)

Derry held their nerve in a penalty shoot-out against Drogheda to reach the semi-final of the League Cup tonight.

Drogheda took the lead on 87 minutes through Jermaine Sandvliet but Derry equalised a minute later through Gary Beckett to bring the match to extra time.

In extra-time Mark Farren gave the Candystripes the lead on 93 minutes but Drogs equalised through Damien Lynch three minutes later.

The match went to penalties but Derry held their nerve to reach the semi-finals.
