Wait and see pleads Celtic new boy
Celtic new boy Mo Camara is well aware he is not the big-name signing the fans were hoping for – but he insists everyone will soon know his name.
The Guinea international penned a two-year-deal last night following a day of discussions at Celtic Park.
The 29-year-old full-back was released by Burnley at the end of last season and knows the Hoops faithful may be eyeing him warily and wondering why Gordon Strachan decided to make him his first Celtic signing.
But Camara believes he has the ability to succeed and is desperate to prove it.
He said: “Celtic is an absolutely massive club for me.
“I know I am not from a big club and I am not a big-name player and that‘s why I‘m desperate for the season to start, so the Celtic fans can see that I deserve this shot.
“We come back on July 1 and I can‘t wait. I am counting the days now. For the first time in my life, I am looking forward to pre-season!
“My life is unbelievable at the moment. I just want to come in now and prove myself and fight for my place.
“I know that I am going to have to fight every day at a massive club like this to show the fans and the manager what I am capable of.”
Camara was being tracked by Celtic when Martin O‘Neill was still in charge but reckons the move has been worth the wait.
He added: “I am happy because for a long time now I have been hearing about Celtic‘s interest in me, for three or four months.
“But, when I heard about Celtic‘s interest, I was willing to wait for a long time because, for me, coming here is like a dream come true.”
Camara admitted he had never set foot in Scotland before yesterday‘s talks but already knows what to expect when Celtic come face to face with Rangers.
He wasted no time in seeking the advice of Rangers midfielder Alex Rae, his former team-mate at Wolves.
Camara told the club‘s official website, www.celticfc.net: “I know there is a big rivalry between Celtic and Rangers.
“We were laughing when we spoke to each other and I said: ‘Next season when I play against you it will be hard for you because you know me and I don‘t like losing‘.
“It will be funny but everyone I spoke to said very good things about Celtic.”
