Shelbourne shocked by Rovers

Shelbourne 1 Shamrock Rovers 2

Shelbourne’s misery continued as Rovers came from behind to jump off the bottom of the table despite missing a penalty and finishing with nine men.

Dave Rogers looked to have got Shels’ out of their rut with the lead goal after five minutes when heading home Jason Byrne’s free-kick.

But Rovers hit back on 35 minutes when Mark Rutherford headed Steve Gough’s cross back for Dave Mooney to force home his fourth goal in three matches.

Five minutes later Rovers took the lead when Will McDonagh headed home a Derek Philips corner.

Shels keeper Steve Williams then saved a 62nd minute penalty from Pat McCourt before Gavin McDonnell was sent off two minutes later.

McDonagh then also saw red on 89 minutes for a second booking.
