Eircom clubs accept Rovers licence decision

The eircom League’s clubs have agreed to accept the FAI Club Licensing Committee's decision to punish Shamrock Rovers but not remove them from the Premier Division.

The eircom League’s clubs have agreed to accept the FAI Club Licensing Committee's decision to punish Shamrock Rovers but not remove them from the Premier Division.

Shamrock Rovers had their licence to compete in the eircom League this season withdrawn and were punished with an eight-point deduction for irregularities in their accounts submitted as part of their club licence.

However, the club was allowed to remain in the league, despite the Club Licening Manual stating that teams must have licences to compete.

A number of clubs were angry but it was agreed to accept the decision at Monday night's Board of Management and Board of Control meetings.

Some clubs are keen for the anomaly that has allowed Rovers to remain in the league without a licence be removed before the start of next season.
