Pompey seal O'Brien deal

Portsmouth have confirmed the £2m (€3m) capture of Newcastle defender Andy O’Brien.

The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international has signed a four-year deal after being given permission to talk to the south coast club last week.

He will join former Magpies Andy Griffin and Lomana LuaLua at Fratton Park after becoming Portsmouth’s first summer signing, and will be unveiled when he and his new team-mates return for pre-season training next month.

“We have signed a first-class player who has played at the top for both club and country and has a very prominent record,” chief executive Peter Storrie told the club’s official website, www.pompeyfc.premiumtv.co.uk.

“We are very happy to introduce Andy as the first signing under Alain Perrin’s regime and likewise, Alain is also very happy to have made the first of his signings.”
