Bluebirds on lookout for new boss

Cardiff will have a new manager in place for the 2005/06 campaign after the club decided to replace Lennie Lawrence as manager.

Lawrence took over from Alan Cork in February 2002 and steered the Bluebirds into the old First Division following their Division Two play-off final success over QPR.

This season the Welsh outfit, in huge debt, finished four points above the drop zone.

Lawrence, who will remain at Ninian Park on a consultancy basis following amicable talks with owner Sam Hammam, told the club’s official website, www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk: “I have enjoyed the last three-and-a-half years at Cardiff City and would like to go on record to thank everyone connected with the club during a period when the club has made tremendous progress.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to personally thank Sam for his tremendous support during my time as manager. I wish the club all the best in the future.”

Hammam said: “Lennie has shown me and the club tremendous loyalty throughout his time. He has always conducted himself with extreme dignity and composure in success and adversity.

“In my nearly 30 years in football, Lennie stands out as the one true gentleman in the manner he has conducted himself working for me at Cardiff City.”

Former Wolves manager Dave Jones has been linked with a return to football with the Bluebirds.
