Fergie won't change plans for Glazer meeting

Sir Alex Ferguson tonight revealed he would not be changing his holiday plans to make room for a first meeting with new Manchester United owner Malcolm Glazer.

The United boss confirmed he had already spoken to the Glazer family on the telephone following the American’s £790 million buy-out of the club.

However, he will not know his exact transfer budget for this summer until he holds face-to-face talks, presumably with Glazer’s son Joel – and that meeting may be delayed until later next month.

Asked if he would now have up to £20m cash to spend on new players this summer, Ferguson revealed: “I don’t know that yet.

“Obviously I’ll sit down with the owners and we’ll ascertain what the situation regarding that is.

“I’ve not met them yet, I’ve only spoken to them on the phone, so it’s early days as far as that’s concerned. When we need a player we think can improve us, we try and get him.”

While some had speculated that Glazer’s takeover could spell the end of Ferguson’s reign, it now seems certain that the United boss will stay on at Old Trafford.

But when asked when he would meet the Glazers, Ferguson, 63, insisted: “I don’t know as I’m going on holiday on June 1 and I’m not changing that at my age!”
