Ferguson to meet Richardson

Alex Ferguson will meet Kieran Richardson next week in a bid to thrash out the Manchester United youngster’s future.

The 20-year-old winger has gone from being a reserve team regular at United to an England squad member within the space of four astonishing months since his loan move to West Brom.

Albion boss Bryan Robson has already expressed a desire to keep Richardson at the Hawthorns for another year as he looks to build on this term’s successful survival fight.

However, Richardson would prefer an Old Trafford return provided he felt there would be more first-team opportunities on offer than he has previously enjoyed.

He was due to meet Ferguson on Tuesday, but that meeting had to be cancelled and with United now in Cardiff preparing for Saturday’s FA Cup Final, it will be next week before Richardson knows where he will be when the new season starts in August.

“I am delighted how things have worked out for him. I saw his performance in Sunday’s game and it is terrific that he has been picked for England,” Ferguson told MUTV.

“I spoke to Kieran’s father yesterday.

“Something cropped up which meant we had to cancel the original meeting but hopefully we can sit down next week and map out his future.”
