Linfield coast into Setanta Cup final
Glentoran 2 Linfield 4
Linfield cruised through to Saturday’s Setanta Cup final against Shelbourne at Tolka Park with a comfortable win over their Belfast rivals.
The Blues blitzed Glens with three goals by half-time to end the game as a contest.
Paul McAreavey pounced on a rebound to head Linfield in front after just five minutes.
Aidan O’Kane’s excellent free-kick was headed powerfully to the net by William Murphy to make it 2-0 on 28 minutes with Glenn Ferguson netting the third two minutes before the interval.
The Blues twice hit the bar early in the second half before Tim Mouncey scored their fourth goal from a free-kick on 54 minutes.
Darren Lockhart led the Glens’ revival with a goal eight minutes later with Shaun Holmes adding a second on 72 minutes, but it was far too little, too late.
