Keane gesture angers Saints fans

Roy Keane was ushered off the pitch at St Mary’s after the Manchester United star responded to barracking from Southampton fans by mocking their relegation plight.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder was warming down after being an unused substitute for the Red Devils’ 2-1 victory over the Saints, which helped condemn them to relegation from the Barclays Premiership.

Saints fans jeered Keane, who then responded to the abusive chanting by pointing down and waving goodbye.

He was quickly escorted down the tunnel by stewards and away from a 500-strong group of fans who had been calling for the resignation of Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe.
