Glazer more interested in money than sport - sister

Malcolm Glazer aims to grow Manchester United’s success so that the club will make him money, his sister said tonight.

Jeanette Goldstein moved to ease the concerns of fans over the takeover bid by the US sports tycoon.

She told RTE Radio she believed Glazer bought the Manchester club because he “is interested in anything that is a profitable enterprise“.

“I know that whatever he has ever done, he wanted to make it successful. I don’t think he would invest the money otherwise,” she added.

However, she said she did not know if he would attend many club games.

Ms Goldstein admitted she has has little contact with her brother since a falling out when their mother, Hanna, died in 1980.

But she said she believed he was more interested in making money than sport.

“He was making money from the time he was eight years old. He was not a student. He was only interested in making money.

“He was too busy in making money to think about playing in sports.”

When asked if he was a recluse, she replied: “He keeps to himself pretty much.”
