Alan Shearer has confirmed he will return to Blackburn to play in a testimonial game for the club’s long-serving coach Tony Parkes.

The Newcastle striker will be reunited with former Rovers keeper Tim Flowers, another key figure in Rovers’ 1995 Premiership title campaign, for the game at Ewood Park on May 17.

Parkes, who lost his job after Mark Hughes took over as manager, told the club’s official website: “To get confirmation from Alan and Tim is a great start. They were both huge stars with Rovers and they had no hesitation in agreeing to play.”
