Former Rangers and Holland boss Dick Advocaat has resigned as coach of Borussia Monchengladbach despite the club announcing over the weekend that he was set to remain in charge.

The Dutchman offered to stand down following Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Mainz which, combined with Bochum’s away win in Kaiserslautern on Sunday, saw Borussia drop to within a point of the bottom three.
