Drogheda United are locked in a stand off with striker Tony Bird as both parties look to sever their ties by mutual agreement.

Drogheda United are locked in a stand off with striker Tony Bird as both parties look to sever their ties by mutual agreement.

Bird returned for pre-season training one week late this year and manager Paul Doolin reacted angrily banishing the Welshman to the stands for the opening games of the season.

Since then, Drogheda have told Bird that they want to cancel his contract though Bird is holding out for a higher severance package than what is on offer.

Bird joined Drogheda from St Patrick’s Athletic last August but has failed to settle with the Louth men, starting just four matches for the side.
