O'Brien steps down as Waterford chairman
Ger O’Brien has stepped down as chairman, director and general manager of Waterford United after five years in charge to concentrate on his other business interests.
In a short statement, O’Brien said: “I wish to announce that I am stepping down as chairman, director and general manager of Waterford United with immediate effect for personal and business reasons.
“I would like to thank all those with whom I have worked over the past five seasons and I would like to wish Alan Reynolds, Giles Cheevers, the staff and players as well as the Board of Directors every good wish for the future.”
O’Brien was thanked for his work by the Waterford board who have elected Greg Pheasey as his interim replacement.
O’Brien took over as Waterford manager when the club were in the First Division and oversaw their return to the Premier Division.
However, he had strained relationships with managers during the time and Paul Power resigned after disagreements with the board while Jimmy McGeough was sacked.
