Fenlon: Second-half performance 'unacceptable'

Shelbourne manager Pat Fenlon has called his side’s second-half performance unacceptable after they blew a two-goal half time lead to draw 3-3 with Portadown in the Setanta Cup last night.

Goals from Richie Baker and Jason Byrne had given Shelbourne a commanding lead, but two goals from Gary Hamilton levelled the scores by the hour mark. Although Baker put Shelbourne in front once again, a magnificent equaliser from Wesley Boyle earned Portadown a deserved share of the points late on.

Fenlon pulled no punches saying: “The game was over at half time. We had it won but we threw it away. It is unacceptable.”

Shelbourne captain Owen Heary was also disappointed calling the second half capitulation “shocking”.

Heary believed the defence was very poor in the second half. “We made one change at half time and it was like the defence had never played together before. We should do a lot better,” he said.
