Lyon poised to clinch fourth title

Lyon did not play today but a fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title is virtually in the bag after disappointing results for both Marseille and Lille.

Marseille were beaten 2-1 down the Cote d’Azur at Monaco while Lille were held 0-0 at St Etienne.

With eight matches to play, Lyon lead second-placed Marseille by 11 points while Monaco leapfrogged Lille to go third but are a point further off the pace.

Goals from Maicon and Emmanuel Adebayor gave the points to Monaco while Abdoulaye Meite pulled one back for Marseille although Monaco’s Lucas Bernardi appeared to get the decisive touch.

Fabien Barthez saved a late penalty from Monaco substitute Shabani Nonda.

Fifth-placed Auxerre were beaten by Pedro Pauleta’s only goal of the match for Paris St Germain.
