We can learn from defeat, says Keane

Roy Keane wants his experienced Manchester United team-mates to shoulder the responsibility for their disappointing Champions League exit this week.

United limped out of European competition for another season after AC Milan’s comfortable victory over two legs, with a number of Alex Ferguson’s youngsters failing to raise their game against the Italian giants.

But Keane, 33, wants to protect his inexperienced team-mates and is hoping they will return stronger to compete for the trophy next season. “We can learn a lot from the other night,” Keane said on MUTV.

“There’s pressure on every player at the club but the more experienced lads, like myself and one or two others, it’s important that we take it more than the young lads because it’s unfair on them.

“They’re still learning, we’re still learning and hopefully we can make up for it next year. Anyone who has been a footballer who has been around a few years, you are learning every day, from every training session and every game.”
