Perth released by Longford Town
Vinny Perth is considering quitting football at the age of 27 after being released by Longford Town last week.
The midfielder is currently training with St Patrick’s Athletic though he admits that he does not know where his future is as he comes to terms with leaving Longford after eight years.
Perth said: “I was devastated. It hit me badly, worse than I thought. So much so I didn’t think I’d play again.
“I haven’t made up my own mind whether I still want to play. Though I have had a couple of offers from first-division sides, I still feel I’ve something to offer to a premier-division club.”
Perth was Stephen Kenny’s first signing as Longford manager and a key component in the side as the club enjoyed a fairytale rise from the bottom of the first division to European football and FAI Cup victory over the last eight years.
A popular figure in Longford, Perth was not offered a new contract at the end of last season, though he was given the opportunity to prove his worth in pre-season training. He returned to training having lost over a stone in weight, but failed to convince Alan Mathews that he deserved a new contract.
