Hoops sign French defender Wolski

Shamrock Rovers have signed French defender Mikel Wolski on a four-month deal.

The 25-year-old defender joins the Hoops after impressing on a trial and will compete with Jason McGuinness, Brian McGovern and Jason Gavin for a place in the Rovers’ defence this season.

Wolski arrives at Rovers with plenty of experience under his belt having previously being with St Johnstone and almost joined Blackpool earlier this year only for the club’s financial position to force them to withdraw from the deal.

“Blackpool want him but can’t afford him so we’ve taken him until July and we’ll see what happens,” said manager Roddy Collins.

Meanwhile, Shamrock Rovers have lost out in the chance to sign former Wales goalkeeper Andy Marriott who has joined Torquay.
