McClaren will not settle for draw

Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren insists his side will be going for a win tonight against Grazer AK in the return leg of their round-of-32 UEFA Cup clash.

Boro need only a goalless draw against the Austria champions to progress, but McClaren wants his side to attack at the Riverside.

Grazer captain Anton Ehmann accused Boro of being arrogant at the Arnold Schwarzenegger Stadium in the first leg last week, and of being defensive in the 2-2 draw, but that is unlikely to be the case tonight.

McClaren is set to revert to two in attack, with striker Joseph-Desire Job replacing midfielder Doriva as Boro go for the win to guarantee themselves a tie with either Sporting Lisbon or Feyenoord.

“The players want to go and win and that is the most important thing,” said McClaren. “If you go out with doubts and with negativity, then that is how you perform. But if you perform positively and you know you have to score and have to win, then for us that is the only way to play.

“It pleases me to hear players saying we are going to win because that is the kind of belief you have to have running through your team going into any game.”
