Fergie: Keane will be remembered in 500 years

Alex Ferguson has claimed Roy Keane will be remembered as one of Manchester United’s greatest players “500 years from now”.

The United captain is back to his best as the club bid to close the nine-point gap on Chelsea at the top of the Premiership.

And Ferguson knows where the responsibility for the resurgence lies – with his inspirational leader.

The United boss told MUTV: “No matter what happens in 30 years time or 500 years from now, he’ll be one of the greatest players of this club.”

Ferguson was saluting Keane’s performance – and his goal – in the 2-0 victory over Birmingham.

He added: “We needed something to open up and Roy produced it. It was a fantastic goal and his 50th for the club. I’m proud of him. He says it’s like buses, they’ll be arriving every week now!

“He’s Roy Keane. Some people can do that – they’ve got something inside that can revisit old times and that was the Roy Keane of 10 years ago. He’s an incredible man, he really is.”
