Bolton recorded their fifth successive Barclays Premiership victory with a controversial goal in a 1-0 win over a Crystal Palace side who squandered a hatful of chances .

Andrew Johnson (twice), Danny Granville, Wayne Routledge and Dougie Freedman all wasted good opportunities for the hosts who dominated the second half but found goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen in inspired form.

Bolton’s goal came 10 minutes from half-time when a scramble in the six-yard area saw Kevin Nolan hook in a shot which was adjudged to have crossed the line despite the best attempts of Emmerson Boyce to keep it out, with television replays proving inconclusive.
