Candela set to join Bolton

French defender Vincent Candela looks set to join Bolton, according to reports in Italy.

The 31-year-old has been given permission to talk to Bolton, his present club Roma have confirmed.

Candela, who joined the Giallorossi in 1996 from French club Guingamp, has only made seven league appearances for Luigi Del Neri’s outfit this season.

Bolton were among the clubs keen to acquire the veteran defender, with Southampton having also shown an interest in Candela.

Candela, a member of the Roma team that won the 2001 Scudetto, was a squad player for France for the successful 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 campaigns.
