Ince blasts 'racist' fans

Paul Ince has accused a section of Millwall fans of racially abusing his Wolves team-mate Seol Ki-Hyeon.

The former England midfielder claimed the South Korean World Cup star was subjected to a barrage of taunts at the New Den on Saturday.

Seol scored a last-minute winner in a 2-1 victory for Glenn Hoddle’s side.

“It was ironic for Seol to get us the winner as some of their fans were a disgrace and some of the things they were shouting at him throughout the game I just couldn’t repeat,” Ince told the Wolverhampton Express & Star.

“I thought we’d got rid of things like that but obviously we haven’t as it reared its ugly head again. To say those sort of things to a nice kid like Seol is an absolute disgrace.

“But to be fair to him he responded in the right way and shoved their taunts back down their throats by putting the ball in the back of the net. I was delighted for Seol.”

Ince added: “We have worked so hard to eradicate this sort of thing from our game and to hear that, especially at Millwall who have done more than most clubs to stamp it out, is very disappointing.

“It was a real reminder of the bad days and I don’t want to see that again. I just think all clubs should look at their stewards. I think they’ve got to stand up and be strong and if they see people being racially abusive then they’ve got to sling them out.

“I don’t care whether it’s one or 50, they have got to be ejected from the crowd and someone has got to be brave enough to implement that. On Saturday they didn’t do their jobs.”

Seol, who was signed last August by Hoddle’s predecessor in the Molineux hotseat Dave Jones, helped his country reach the semi-finals of the last World Cup.

Under Hoddle, the 26-year-old forward has blossomed after he was employed in an attacking midfield role and he has scored three goals in his last five games.

The player himself said: “I don’t care what the fans say, it’s normal to get a bit of stick and it didn’t affect me at all. If you want to become a good player you have to ignore it.”
