Murphy commits to Waterford

Waterford United star Daryl Murphy has committed his future to the Blues by signing a new two-year contact at the RSC.

Twenty-two goals last season earned giant striker Murphy a place in the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad and had English clubs Manchester city and Ipswich Town checking on his progress.

But despite travelling to Ipswich on trial last week, Murphy has decided to remain with his home town club.

"I am delighted that Daryl has decided to extend his contract," commented Blues boss Alan Reynolds.

"He was in tremendous form last season and seemed to get better as the year progressed. Given his potential, I have no doubt that Daryl will continue to improve and his decision to stay at Waterford United is a huge boost for the club and the rest of the squad."

Having secured the services of commanding defender Pat Purcell last week, Reynolds is now hoping to make a number of further signings for next season.
