O'Neill gives up on Yorke

Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has no plans to revive his interest in Dwight Yorke.

Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has no plans to revive his interest in Dwight Yorke.

The 33-year-old striker has been told he can leave Birmingham, whom he chose over the Scottish champions after leaving Blackburn last summer.

But O’Neill today denied reports he could move again for the former Manchester United front man.

He said: “There is absolutely no truth in this whatsoever.”

Celtic defender Stephen McManus, meanwhile, is the latest name to laud versatile team-mate Chris Sutton.

The Englishman bagged the winner at Pittodrie on Sunday and has heard Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood, his own boss and Aiden McGeady describe him as Scottish football’s most complete player.

McManus said: “Sutty’s different class. He and big John (Hartson) are fantastic for us up there – and he just seems to get better with every season.

“For the likes of me, they’re fantastic outlets – particularly when you consider how physical they are.

“I think they’ve flung every centre-half in the league about this season, and I know from playing against them in training that they’re definitely a handful.

“You just have to learn to be as physical as they are to cope with them – and to their credit, they can take it as well as dish it out.”
