Huckerby staying put at Norwich
Darren Huckerby has re-assured Norwich fans he is “not going anywhere” following reports linking him with a move away from Carrow Road.
The 28-year-old was instrumental in helping the Canaries win promotion to the Barclays Premiership since joining on a permanent deal last Christmas after a successful loan spell, and is currently the club‘s leading scorer with six goals.
However, with Norwich set to sign £2.5m (€3.6m) Crewe striker Dean Ashton, there had been suggestions the former Manchester City and Leeds forward was set to leave, Liverpool one of the clubs said to be after his services.
But Huckerby declared: “I’m not going anywhere. I’m here for my two years and hopefully longer – so there’s nothing in it.”
Ashton agreed personal terms with Norwich over the weekend, and the 21-year-old is now set to undergo a medical before completing his move to Norfolk.
Canaries club captain Craig Fleming is looking forward to welcoming the Coca-Cola Championship’s leading scorer into the Carrow Road dressing room.
“It’s a great signing if we get him,” Fleming said in the Eastern Daily Press.
“I’ve played against Dean on numerous occasions and he has always been a handful. I always thought he would go on to bigger and better things. He’s a talented lad. He’s strong, he’s got good feet and he scores goals. He’s a serious player.
“It’s great that the club can afford to spend that sort of money. To get a player of his class and potential at Carrow Road would be brilliant.”
