Gazza set to be discharged

Former England star Paul Gascoigne is expected to be discharged from hospital on Thursday as he recovers from pneumonia.

The 37-year-old was admitted to London’s Princess Grace Hospital over the New Year period after complaining of feeling unwell.

Alex Armitage, the agent of the former Newcastle, Tottenham and Lazio midfielder, told the Press Association: “At the moment it looks like Paul will be out of hospital on Thursday or conceivably Friday, but more likely Thursday.

“He’s had a huge amount of support from his friends and old team-mates and he’s had a large number of visitors.”

It is expected that Gascoigne will be ordered to rest at home after he is discharged, but he has not yet been told how long his period of convalescence should be.

“Presumably he will have to take it fairly easy but as yet we don’t have final instruction from the doctors,” Armitage added.
