Morrison: Dunn was in England reckoning
Clinton Morrison believes his Birmingham team-mate David Dunn would have soon been pushing for a senior England call-up had he remained fit.
Former England U21 skipper Dunn had been in sparkling form since returning to action after a hamstring injury and a key component in Blues’ recent revival.
But the problem which has dogged him for the past 12 months resurfaced during the home St Stephen's Day clash with Middlesbrough.
Now a distraught Dunn is facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines and then the long road back to fitness.
Morrison said: “It is a big problem for Dunny and I’m so disappointed for him because in the last few games he has been brilliant.
“There is no doubt that he has given us that extra spark and was definitely back to his old self that everyone knows he is capable of.
“I am sure if he had carried on playing like he was, then he would have got into the England reckoning on that left side of midfield because he has been brilliant there. As a forward he is great to play with and gives a great pass.”
A sympathetic Morrison went across to console Dunn as he sat disconsolately near the touchline after suffering the setback early in the second half and he is confident he can bounce back again.
He said: “Hopefully won’t be down for too long. I went across to him and said keep your head up because I knew his hamstring had gone straight away.
“What is in Dunny’s favour is that he is a strong character and hopefully he’ll bounce back from it like he has done in the past.”
