Nunez backs Benitez

Antonio Nunez insists Rafael Benitez can bring the European glory years back to Liverpool.

Nunez, who has finally forced his way into the Anfield side after spending the first months of his move to Liverpool recovering from a knee ligament injury, still believes his new side is “one of the world’s great clubs”.

“There are a lot of new players here and a new manager and we have had to contend with a lot of injuries,” Nunez said.

“Obviously we are still all learning to work together but I think we have the ingredients to bring more success to the club.”

Nunez joined in the summer for €4.3m from Real Madrid and admits the history and glamour of Liverpool played a major part in his decision.

He added: “I know it is quite a few years since Liverpool last won the league title and were winning the European Cup.

“But they are still seen in Europe as one of the great clubs. Their past is legendary.

“Liverpool are one of the world’s most historic clubs and the players that have been brought together by the manager want to show that Liverpool are still a major force to be feared.”
