Tottenham 2 Middlesbrough 0

Tottenham secured their first Premiership victory under new coach Martin Jol as they overcame a Middlesbrough side reduced to 10 men by Franck Queudrue’s reckless tackle.

Queudrue was handed a straight red card six minutes before the break for a two-footed lunge at Noe Pamarot, his second dismissal of the season and his sixth in four years at the club.

Tottenham duly took advantage as Jermain Defoe put them ahead three minutes after the restart and then substitute Freddie Kanoute blocked an attempted clearance by Mark Schwarzer to make it 2-0.
