Campbell returns for Gunners

Sol Campbell was plunged straight back into action on his return from injury as Arsene Wenger took a calculated gamble on the England international in Arsenal’s Champions League tie in Holland.

Campbell, who has been missing for the past month with a calf injury, was restored as Arsenal looked for the win against PSV Eindhoven that would seal their place in the knock-out stages.

However, Wenger knew that while a draw in Holland would keep their hopes alive, defeat would leave them at the mercy of other results.

With Gilberto Silva, Edu and Dennis Bergkamp all injured, Cesc Fabregas continued in central midfield, while Jose Reyes was also restored to the line-up.

Group leaders PSV welcomed back Mark van Bommel after suspension, but were without the injured Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, ensuring a place up front for former Sheffield Wednesday striker Gerald Sibon.
