The Football Association have confirmed an investigation is to be launched after reports of missiles being thrown at Millwall players during yesterday’s clash with West Ham at the New Den.
Millwall player-boss Dennis Wise appeared to have objects thrown in his direction from the West Ham section of the stadium as he prepared to take a first-half corner, but a major flashpoint was avoided.
The Lions went on to win the game 1-0, thanks to substitute Danny Dichio’s 78th-minute goal.
But after receiving referee Peter Walton’s match report, the FA have opened an inquiry into the alleged missile-throwing and have written to both clubs asking for their version of events.
A statement released from the FA’s headquarters in Soho Square read: “The FA is investigating a reported incident of missile throwing aimed at Millwall players during yesterday’s match against West Ham at the New Den.
“The FA has received reports from the referee and the crowd control advisor present at the match and has written to the clubs for further information.”
