Blues aim for revenge against Longford

FAI Cup runners-up Waterford United face winners Longford Town tonight eager to settle a few scores at Flancare Park (7.45pm).

Waterford’s hopes of a trophy were crushed in the dying minutes of the final at Lansdowne Road last month when Longford came from behind to score twice in a minute and retain the cup.

Several players on display tonight are also reported to be targets for clubs in Britain and Livingston manager Allan Preston is expected to be among the talent scouts tonight.

The bottom-placed Scottish Premier League side has been leaking goals this season and Preston already have out-of-favour Longford centre-back Brian McGovern on trial.

Now fellow Town defenders Barry Ferguson and Stephen Paisley are likely to be under scrutiny tonight.

Also in the scouts’ sights is Waterford striker Daryl Murphy. The Irish Under-21 international has hit 21 goals this season and is understood to have attracted interest from Manchester City.

Both sides are injury free but Waterford will be without Pat Purcell and Wayne Fitzgerald, both serving bans and Longford have Dessie Baker and Alan Murphy suspended.
