Liverpool’s young side were holding their own going into the second half of the Carling Cup tie against holders Middlesbrough tonight.

Neil Mellor should have given them the lead when he headed over following a cross from Stephen Warnock.

Middlesbrough did find the target through Bolo Zenden only for his effort to be ruled out for offside.
