Jol has faith in forwards

New Tottenham head coach Martin Jol believes the goals will flow in the Premiership if the service is right for what he describes as one of the best strike partnerships in the UK.

For those who believed Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane are unable to play together and do not pass to one another, last night’s 3-0 Carling Cup fourth-round win over Burnley firmly dispelled such a notion.

Keane scored either side of half-time, with one of his goals served on a platter by Defoe, while the England international added a stunning third after being played in by the Republic of Ireland forward.

In reaching the quarter-finals, Spurs have now scored 13 goals in three ties, yet they can barely buy a league goal and have slumped down the table on the back of four straight defeats.

But Jol, appointed on Monday following the shock resignation of Jacques Santini three days earlier, is confident the tide will turn in the Premiership.

“It’s amazing we can’t score in the league,” insisted Jol, who had previously been Santini’s assistant for the Frenchman’s four months in charge.

“But it’s all about service. If they get that then they will score goals because they are one of the best partnerships in England.”
