Martin brace sends Dublin down

Goals early and late from John Martin at last confirmed Dublin City’s relegation.

Town had the perfect start with the lead goal after just six minutes.

Dessie Baker set up Martin just inside the box and his shot went off a post to beat Robbie Horgan.

Vikings came close to levelling on 35 minutes but Town skipper Barry Ferguson cleared off the line from Robbie Farrell.

Horgan had to make a brilliant save from Alan Kirby on 61 minutes before Martin struck again eight minutes from time.

Dublin City’s misery was complete after 86 minutes when Scott Friel was sent off for a challenge on Longford goalkeeper Mick Dempsey.
