Charlton striker Jason Euell has been selected by Jamaica for their crunch World Cup qualifier against the United States.

The CONCACAF Group One match takes place in Columbus, Ohio, in nine days time when the former England Under-21 international could help his new country through to the final stages of qualification for Germany 2006.

Euell was only given the go-ahead to play for Jamaica last month and that meant he had missed the first five games of the semi-final group stage.

The 27-year-old said: “I’m just relieved it’s all finally come together because it’s six months since I originally spoke to the Jamaican federation about the chance of playing.

“It’s great to see it all down on paper and now I can finally think about making my international debut and help Jamaica to the World Cup finals.

“There have been ups and downs – every time there was a game I thought it could be my time – but now fingers crossed I will finally be able to put the shirt on.

“I’m really excited because it’s a great opportunity, and I think we have a good chance of making it through to the next round.”

Euell was born in London, but qualifies for Jamaica as it is the place of his father’s birth.
