Jewell manager of the month

Wigan boss Paul Jewell has been named Coca-Cola Championship manager of the month for October.

It is the second time this season Jewell has been handed the accolade after scooping the prize for August.

Jewell steered table-topping Wigan to five successive league wins in October and they made it six in midweek with victory at Stoke.

The promotion-chasing Latics remain the only unbeaten side in the country and now hold a six-point lead over second-placed Ipswich in the table.

Bradford boss Colin Todd won the League One award after leading his side to five consecutive victories during October.

The Bantams climbed to second place in the table with the impressive string of victories and Todd insists the award belongs to everyone at the club.

He told the club’s official website, www.bradfordcityfc.co.uk: “It is a tribute to the backroom staff and the players who have done remarkably well.

“People talk about this award being the kiss of death but I think it’s just a myth. It is brilliant for the football club after some very difficult times.

“We have all worked extremely hard. This award is not down to myself but to the players who have responded the correct way.”

Chester boss Ian Rush has been named League Two manager of the month.

The former Liverpool superstar, who was linked with the vacant Wales job despite only entering full-time management at the end of August, was unbeaten as Chester boss until Saturday’s defeat by Yeovil.

Rush led City to two draws and three victories from their six games in October.
