Wenger turned down Germany job: Beckenbauer

Franz Beckenbauer has admitted approaching Arsene Wenger to see if the Arsenal manager was interested in managing Germany.

Beckenbauer, who enjoys considerable influence in the German football association, talked to Wenger following Rudi Voller’s resignation in the wake of a disappointing European Championships this summer.

However, Wenger made it clear he was happy in North London.

Beckenbauer told Radio Five Live: “I had a quick chat with Arsene but he said: ‘No. Of course it’s a great challenge to be the manager of the German national team but I am happy at Arsenal’.”
