Greek sides stutter in UEFA Cup

Greece may be the European Nations champions but their club sides struggled as the group stage of the UEFA Cup got underway with all three representatives beaten.

Egaleo and Panionios both fell by a single goal at home to Middlesbrough and Newcastle respectively but the most emphatic defeat was for AEK Athens, thrashed 5-1 by Zenit St Petersburg in Russia.
