Gerrard making good progress

Steven Gerrard is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a foot injury and could be back playing for Liverpool in three weeks.

The England midfielder broke a metatarsal bone in his foot against Manchester United last month and it was initially feared he would be absent for two months.

However, the Reds captain is now aiming to return in the Champions League clash with Deportivo La Coruna on November 3.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez told the Daily Star Sunday: “Perhaps he’s now three weeks away. The injury needed time but when both Gerrard and (Antonio) Nunez return it will be like having two new signings.

“I have talked to Steve and he is now ahead of schedule.”
