Preston reject Leeds bid for Healy
Preston have rejected a “laughable” bid from Leeds for wantaway striker David Healy.
The Northern Ireland international is keen to leave Deepdale, having turned down a new three-year contract, and is set to become a free agent next summer should he stay at Preston.
But Preston chairman Derek Shaw insists the club will accept no less than 25-year-old Healy’s full value.
Both Shaw and manager Billy Davies agreed to shun the offer from Leeds, who Preston face in the Championship this weekend. “We had a laughable offer from Leeds United which we turned down,” said Shaw.
“Billy had a call this morning from Leeds assistant manager Sam Ellis, and he immediately rang me, but, as I said, we found it laughable.”
Healy cost Preston £1.5m (€2.1m) when joining from Manchester United in January 2001.
“We’ve talked all along about not wanting to lose David Healy, but we now have to prepare for the game (against Leeds) on Saturday,” said boss Davies.
