Rovers players to have case made to board
The Professional Footballers Association of Ireland is to present the case for Shamrock Rovers’ players to the Hoops board to discuss the club’s proposals regarding outstanding payments.
The move comes after an initial meeting was held between the Players, the PFAI and the clubs’ board of directors.
A statement issued by the PFAI stated: “The PFAI has been mandated by the players to inform the club of their position regarding outstanding monies due. A delegation of the players, the PFAI, SIPTU and the clubs Board will meet to discuss the players' concerns regarding proposals put to them by the Board.”
Matters came to a head last week when the Rovers squad refused to attend a training session after believing an October 1 deadline for outstanding wages had passed.
Club chairman Tony Maguire insisted the club had pledged to pay monies due to the players “within four weeks of concluding a deal with our stadium investor”.
Maguire added that the deal had not yet been concluded but the club was “totally committed to honouring its obligations”.
