Weston waiting for Wales call

Cardiff defender Rhys Weston could be the shock inclusion in Mark Hughes’ plans for his last match as Wales manager.

Weston has struggled for a week with a hamstring injury but stayed in the squad all last week for constant treatment.

The 23-year-old could find himself plunged into the Group Six battle with Poland at right-back, to allow Mark Delaney to continue his emergency role as centre half.

Hughes’ hand could be forced by the fact that veteran Andy Melville has been ruled out of the Poland game with the hamstring problem that forced him out of the Old Trafford defeat by England at the last minute.

Delaney had to switch to centre-half at the last minute and Spurs winger Simon Davies was forced to play right-back because of Delaney’s move inside to the heart of defence.

Jason Koumas, the last-minute inclusion in midfield in what was claimed to be dressing room chaos following Melville’s late withdrawal against England, said: “It was a surprise getting into the side. It was a big game and a great experience.”
